Way Back Wednesday: Postcard, Maryknoll Seminary built 1964

May 7, 2025 by Geri Duff

When Maryknoll Seminary opened in 1964 it had room for 50 brothers. When it closed in the 1980s, there were only 20 brothers left. The Tower to the left of the front lawn held three bells. In August of 1999 during the dismantling of the building, the top bell was sent to The Bare Cove Fire Museum for its cupola. Father Dominic from the Lady of Guadalupe of Denton, NE, was helping remove the chapel altar when he was offered the services of a crane company to remove the remaining two bells for shipment to Nebraska. He then convinced the Fire Museum to give him the top bell and store it for him until he could arrange transport. Now the main and chapel altars and the three bells from Maryknoll are in the care of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary in Denton NE. The Hingham property was subdivided for the Brandon Woods Housing development. This postcard photo is from the Hingham Camera Shop.
