All Hingham residents are encouraged to participate in a townwide celebration of Rev250 — a multiyear regional and national commemoration of the American Revolution and the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.
Assistant Town Manager for Operations Art Robert gave an update to the select board recently about Hingham’s role in this growing statewide effort.
“Interest is building around town and at Town Hall as to how we can share Hingham’s rich history and assets with the world,” he said.
The town administrator-directed and volunteer-led Hingham Rev250 task force is charged with bringing together different people and organizations to host events and activities with ties to Hingham’s Revolution-era heritage that will continue into the summer of 2026. Some grant funding may be available from the state.
Building community pride
Key tasks include coordinating and promoting events, building community pride, welcoming visitors, and connecting heritage tourism to Hingham’s small businesses — including activities with ties to Hingham shopping and dining opportunities.
“We’ll be talking with the MBTA about making better connections between Boston and Hingham in support of what we are planning,” Robert said.
Next steps
In addition to the planning, next steps include a social media launch and a Rev250 website — hingham250.org, to come soon.
“There will be a concerted effort to be sure all of Hingham is involved in this townwide celebration of the revolution that led to the freedom of this country — from the Shipyard to downtown Hingham and the Hingham Farmers Market,” former select board member Joseph Fisher — a member of the task force — said. “We have a lot to be thankful for. I hope everyone participates.”
