Unfortunately, most all of the 4th of July traditions in Hingham have been canceled this year - including the Rec Road Race, the Pancake Breakfast, the 4th of July Parade and for the second year in a row, the fireworks. However, the 50 Flags Campaign is on again this year for the 8th consecutive year - with appropriate social distancing, and health & safety precautions.

The 50 Flags Campaign is one of the top fundraising sources that help pay for the annual cost of $55,000 to host the parade! All of the funds come from fundraisers, sponsorships, and private donations; no tax dollars are allocated to the costs.

Due to the limitations caused by COVID-19, this year’s program will be slightly modified. The flag installations will be for two weeks, only, starting the weekend of June 27&28 and removals will be made the weekend of July 11&12, as July Fourth falls on a Saturday. The rental donation is $75.00 and orders can be placed on line by going to the town website www.hingham-ma.gov and using the Quick Link to the 50 Flags Campaign.

Please note that the proceeds are well invested. Since the Campaign is very labor intensive, volunteers from the Hingham HS football, field hockey, rowing and Best Buddies programs, as well as the Hingham Youth Football 6th grade Super Bowl champion football team all help install and remove the flags. Twenty percent of the gross is designated to a donation pool, which is then allocated to each of the volunteer programs in the percentage of installations/removals completed. The balance of 80% goes towards next year’s parade costs and flag inventory.

Please show your Patriotism and help support the parade and these great youth programs.
