March 12, 2025 Submitted by Laura Donnelly

Trevor Donnelly was awarded a Gold Key for art in the 2025 Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards. Trevor also earned an Honorable Mention.

Trevor is the sole Gold Key award winner from Hingham High School. He will be celebrated, along with the other regional Gold and Silver Key winners, at The School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University Medford Campus on Sunday, March 16 during the 12 pm ceremony. Trevor’s work will also be on display in the Scholastic Gold Key Exhibit at Tuft’s Breed Memorial Hall starting 9-5 Saturday, March 15, and running through Sunday, March 16. In years past, the awardees names are published in the Sunday Boston Globe on or around the ceremony date.

Presented by the Alliance of Young Artists and Writers, the Scholastic Awards are the longest-running and most prestigious recognition program for creative teens in the United States. Established in 1923, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards validate and bring the works of emerging artists to regional and national audiences.

This year, the Massachusetts region reviewed 7,898 art entries. Of those, 1,330 Honorable Mentions, 730 Silver Keys and 575 Gold Keys were awarded in art. Gold Key winners advance to the national contest in New York where national winners will be announced in June. Notable Scholastic Arts and Writing Award winners include: Andy Warhol, Cy Twombly, Kay Walkingstick and John Baldessari, as well as writers Truman Capote, John Updike, Stephen King and Amanda Gorman.

Since Trevor’s sophomore year, he earned a Silver Key and multiple Honorable Mentions. His personal goal was to win a Gold Key during his Hingham High School art career — a goal met with the tremendous and valuable instruction, guidance, encouragement and support of Mr. Eschauzier and Ms. Papuga.

Trevor has been accepted to several art schools-colleges. He is awaiting one notification before making his decision.
