National Public Safety Telecommunicators (Dispatchers) Week from April 11 to 17 is an opportunity for members of the Hingham community to thank the men and women who answer some of the most challenging calls for service.

Hingham Town Hall houses the South Shore Regional Emergency Communications Center, which is a regional 911 dispatch center.

SSRECC public safety dispatchers serve four communities – Hingham, Hull, Cohasset, and Norwell – and they answer all of the 911 calls, emergency phone lines, and police, fire, and ambulance radios for these four communities.

"They are the first ones we all contact when an emergency happens.  They work 24/7, 365 days a year and [often] miss holidays and family events," Town Administrator Tom Mayo said this week. "We thank them for their dedication and professionalism in keeping our community safe."
