A Rhode Island man was arrested Thursday after being found inside a car in a car dealership. An Officer used a Taser after he ran directly toward an Officer.

On June 6, 2019 at 12:49am Officers responded to the Best Chevrolet parking lot on Derby St. for a report by a security company monitoring the property that a man was walking around the cars. The property is surrounding by a closed gate and fencing. An Officer began walking around the cars, he saw a man inside one of the used cars. As the Officer approached, the man stepped out and began walking away. The Officer told the man to stop. The man said he was looking for a place to sleep and ran away.

The man began running directly toward a second Officer who was approaching on foot. Despite commands to stop, the man continued running directly toward that second Officer. That Officer deployed his Taser, striking the man. The man went to the ground and was placed under arrest without further incident. The man was examined by Hingham Fire Paramedics and he declined additional treatment.

The man gave conflicting explanations about what he was doing in the lot. There have been past incidents where tires have been stolen from cars overnight in the lot.

Arrested was Cristian Adames Torres, age 22, of 30 Candance St., Providence, Rhode Island. He was charged with: 1) Felony Breaking and Entering in the Nighttime 2) Trespassing. He was released after posting $500 bail and arraigned later that day at Hingham District Court.

Officers located a car parked behind the Derby Street Shoppes near the rear of the Best Chevrolet property that was registered to Mr. Adames Torres. Detectives obtained a search warrant for that vehicle. Employees found a used SUV with a broken side window, the jack in place underneath it and all the lug nuts removed from the wheels. Additional charges will be sought related to the damage and attempted theft of those tires against Mr. Adames Torres. The past incidents remain under investigation.
