This week’s Athlete of the Week presented by Nothing Stronger is freshman Michael Rogers. Michael led Hingham boys golf to a 5th place finish in the Division 1 Championship last week. After an opening hole double bogey, he settled down with a birdie and eagle in two of the next four holes and finished the round at 2 over par for a 5th place overall finish. Michael has been the team’s number one golfer from the start of the season, an impressive feat, especially as a freshman.
“Mike has played an immense role in our team’s success this year,” says senior captain Liam Jordan. “He played great in sectionals and incredible in the state finals finishing at the top near the best players in the state. Very proud of how he performed and looking forward to what he will do in the future.”
Coach Eric Gill is impressed with his composure and handling the big situations.
“There is a lot of pressure as the number one golfer to show up in the state tournament,” explained Gill. “And there’s even more pressure for a freshman. But after some slow starts, Michael was able to dig deep and put together a couple of great rounds. He’s a grinder and he never lets his foot off the gas.”
Congrats Michael!
