Man Arrested Following Brief Pursuit and Crash

A Brockton man was arrested after he drove away from police during a traffic stop. The man led police on a brief pursuit which was called off when it reached an excessive speed. A short time later the car crashed in Quincy.

On Friday, March 26, 2021, at 2:30am officers began a traffic stop on Summer St. (Route 3A) for a lane violation. The car initially pulled over in the rotary on Summer St. Officers saw three people inside. Before they reached the driver’s door, the driver turned around to look at the officers, and drove away.

Officers began to pursue the car as it continued north from Summer St., to Otis St., and onto Downer Ave. It drove past two stop signs and drove back onto Route 3A (Lincoln St.) heading toward Weymouth. It passed through a red light at the Hingham Shipyard and continued to speed up in excess of 100 mph and the pursuit was discontinued. The car continued speeding into Weymouth on (Route 3A) Bridge St.

A short time later, the car crashed in Quincy as it entered the rotary on Rte. 3A (Washington St.) and ultimately landed on the roof. No other cars were involved in the crash. Hingham Officers arrived and assisted Weymouth and Quincy Police in removing the three occupants who were still inside. The driver was placed under arrest by Hingham Officers and transported by ambulance to the hospital for evaluation. One passenger, a 16 year old, was transported to the hospital for evaluation. The other passenger, a 21 year old Brockton man, was not injured. After being cleared from the hospital, the driver was booked at the Hingham Police station.

Arrested was Orlando N. Munoz-Gomez, age 23, of 140 Spring St., Apt. 1, Brockton, MA. He was charged with: 1) Failure to Stop for Police 2) Negligent Operation 3) Unlicensed Operation 4) Stop Sign Violation 5) Stop Sign Violation 6) Failure to Drive in Right Lane 7) Red Light Violation 8) Speeding (104mph in 40mph zone). He also had an outstanding warrant, out of Brockton District Court, for similar offenses including Failing to Stop for Police, Negligent Operation and Unlicensed Operation. He has never had a license.

He was arraigned at Hingham District Court on March 26, 2021. The crash was investigated by Quincy Police.
