The Harbrowomen completely dominated in their outstanding win over Marshfield on Thursday, ending the game with a 15-1 victory. From the start, Hingham established themselves as a force to be reckoned with, scoring two goals in less than five minutes of play. From there they continued to fire on the offensive front and make some tough plays, while their impenetrable defense kept Marshfield scoreless in the first half. The teams drive and chemistry was undeniable as this win was a strong collective effort, highlighted by some incredible individual performances.

Leading the team was junior Madeline Packard who scored five goals and was simply unstoppable. She thoroughly impressed with her ability to make some difficult plays and she was the force that propelled the team to keep racking up the points. Despite her own fierce performance, she attributed the win to the great mentality and immense determination of the team. When asked how the team comes together to prepare for games like this she commented, “we try to get locked in in practice and work together really well. Pregame we try to get our energy all hype and in warmups we motivate each other. Before every game we all get together in a huddle and discuss what we want to learn and learn from in each game and kind of just make it all come together.”

Junior goaltender Lily Samoska only let up one goal vs Marshfield last week.

It is clear that these strategies have been working incredibly for Packard and the rest of the team as they all excelled and did their jobs brilliantly throughout the game. There were an endless number of unbelievable performances including sophomores Caroline Connolly and Neely Sgobbo with two goals, junior Stella Brazis also with two, senior Abbey Kennedy with one, sophomore Haylen Wilson with one, and goalie Lily Samoska with yet another amazing game, playing a huge role in keeping Marshfield to only one goal. There were many others, as this win was entirely a team effort with some of the younger players beginning to solidify and thrive in their roles on the team and upperclassmen continuing to step up as leaders and drive the team’s momentum to get these big wins.

Head Coach Farkes spoke more on what led the team to success and helped them keep the momentum throughout the game “I thought we dominated the draw circle which is probably what led to the majority of the goals…It was an overall team effort but I think we are really solid on the defensive end which led to a lot more opportunities on attack.” She continued to emphasize the strength of the defense as well as the effect that their ability to gel and make crucial stops had on the game.

Farkes also spoke to the tenacious mindset she and her team had going into the game, “every league game is battle, in the patriot league everybody comes to play so its just another opportunity to play and work through who we are and our identity. It’s just another day to get better.”

This team is strong in every aspect of the game and continues to impress with their skill and persevering mindset. They are consistently determined to win but also use every game as a learning experience and opportunity to grow and it is this outlook that has allowed them to be such a powerful force on the field.
