Evening with the Author - "What Kind of Girl? An African Child Caught Between Worlds," Thursday, Oct. 14, at 7 p.m. in the Whiton Room. This is a sweeping coming-of-age story about a young Malawi girl tangling with gender restrictions, religious institutions, American cultural attitudes, and African traditions that seek to define who she can be. With a thousand cultural ideas flooding into her head from American media, Caroline struggled to fit into traditional African society. At the age of nine, she found herself in a boarding school far from home and finally answering the question: “What kind of girl are you?” It is also a tale of how one girl’s story can become all of our stories. This program will be held on Zoom and registration is required. Please visit hinghamlibrary.org or call the Library to register.

Gap year solutions - Thursday, Oct. 14, at 7 p.m. Virtual event. Katherine Stievater of Gap Year Solutions will talk about what a gap year is, whether it might be right for you/your child, and how to go about planning one. Questions are welcome.
