In January the Maritime Center was able to recruit Amy Conley to assume the role of Executive Director, a position previously held by Ellen Dresser. Amy is no stranger to Hingham or the Maritime Center. She grew up in Crow Point sailing at the Hingham Yacht Club. Whether crewing for her grandfather, Richard Partridge, on race days or setting sail for familiar New England destinations like Cuttyhunk, Martha’s Vineyard and Block Island with her family, sailing has always been in her DNA.

As a teenager and young adult Amy was also a familiar face at the Maritime Center. Originally recruited by Virginia Gray as the Waterfront Director and Head of Sailing in the late 90’s, Amy spent many summers teaching sailing and supporting the mission of the Maritime Center of getting kids on the water and learning the joys of sailing.

Now a married Mom of three sailing aged children, Amy has prioritized time on the water for her own family. Whether buzzing out to the Boston Harbor Islands, popping over to Stellwagen’s Bank to look for whales, or supporting her daughter at local regattas, there is no place she would rather be than on the water!

It was this connection that made her an obvious choice to lead the organization now. Asked about her new role Amy noted that "It feels like there was some divine intervention at work. Life has come full circle for me, and returning to the waterfront where I can build on the momentum the Maritime Center has and work with a fantastic Board of Directors to inject some new energy and excitement to grow the program and expand our offerings is really what brought me back. Hingham is so fortunate to have this resource available so it is really important that we work together as a community to keep strengthening it and getting the next generation of sailors and rowers out on the water!”

Other changes include a new Board of Trustees. Liza MacKinnon has taken on the role of President, Tom Curtis Vice President, Marnie Owens Treasurer & Nancy Kerber Secretary.

We have new boats being delivered, the dock launching is scheduled and classes are starting to fill up. It’s going to be a great summer, we hope that you’ll join us! Either way we welcome your donations, even the smallest donations help us reach our goal of providing boating for all! The continued success of the Maritime Center depends on you, the community.
