Hingham Youth Football and Hingham High School football players share a long tradition of undertaking community service projects.

Six Hingham HS football players added to that long list of community service projects by working at the Anderson Veterans House located on Fort Hill Street.  The project was part of the Hingham HS Senior Class Volunteer Service Day on Friday, April 17th.

The six garden beds at the Veteran’s House were dilapidated after many storms and were not usable. The players cleared away two pickup loads of debris and then levelled the surface.

Under the guidance of Patrick Driscoll – Hingham HS Class of 2007, the players learned how to construct six raised garden beds.  Driscoll is the owner of Lunch Construction & Design and volunteered his time and expertise in constructing the beds.

The project got a major boost as Tom McNulty and his son TJ – owner of Hingham Lumber, graciously donated the lumber and materials.

Once the beds were in place, the players then spread 100 cubic feet of garden soil and fertilizers to prepare for eventual planting.

The next and final step will include a consultation and design by the Garden Club of Hingham.

The additional funding for the project is being underwritten by the Hingham Veterans Council and a donor who had Seattle 3, New England 0 after the first quarter in the Super Bowl…
