Hingham Historical Society hosts 110th annual meeting

The Hingham Historical Society held its Annual Meeting on Tuesday evening, April 23rd, at the Hingham Heritage Museum and via Zoom. Officers elected to two-year terms included Matt MacDonald, Treasurer and Cynthia Galko, Clerk. Cheryl Bierwirth, Bob Mosher and Jim Conroy were each re-elected as directors. The Society was delighted to welcome five new directors, Bob Brancale, Christine Maglione, Eileen Pyne, Jerry Sgobbo and Neil Smith while recognizing with gratitude the contributions of retiring directors Gary Tondorf-Dick, Warren Pelissier, and Eileen McIntyre.

After reports by the Board Chair, Jim Taylor, Finance Chair Matt MacDonald and Executive Director Deirdre Anderson, the membership vote on revised Articles of Organization and By-Laws led by Board Vice Chair Caroline Counselman and members of the Governance Committee: Cynthia Galko, Cheryl Bierwirth and Erin Whitmore.

The meeting ended with the presentation of the W. Bradford Sprout, Jr. Award. recognizing a significant contribution to the preservation of Hingham’s rich architectural heritage, and the Judith L. Kimball Award, honoring volunteer service to our Town and the greater community.

This 2024 Sprout Award was presented to the team behind the restoration of 8 Pond Street: homeowners Bridgette and Bob Minicus, Architect Christopher DeOrsey of Campbell Smith and the Wilcox Corporation; Ben Wilcox, Lee Wilcox and Chip McGuire. Hank and Chris Wilcox were also credited for their craftmanship.

Paula M. Bagger was honored with the Kimball Award in recognition of her decade of service to the Society including groundbreaking research on artist Prince Demah, people of color in Hingham and most recently, Hingham’s 1776 Census.
