Hundreds of family members, friends, former students, athletes and colleagues gathering in Hingham High School’s auditorium on Saturday, May 23rd to remember Fred Jewett. A number of people spoke in person, including HHS Athletic Director Jim Quatromoni and HPS Math Director, HHS girls track coach and Fred’s son, Dave Jewett. A dozen or so video messages were also played from former students and athletes including one from HHS Class of 1980 and Hall of Fame broadcaster Sean McDonough, who expressed his admiration for Fred and wished he could have been there but was in Denver broadcasting the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
After the ceremony, people were invited to do a memorial lap around the track, which was then dedicated to be forever know as the Fred Jewett Memorial Track. A scholarship in Coach Jewett’s name has been set up. More information can be found here.
