It’s not every week that the Athlete of the Week presented by College Hype locks it up on a Sunday, but junior Drew Golden pretty much did that last Sunday. Drew, a junior on the golf team, along with three of his teammates took part in the Cape Cod National Golf Course High School Invitational. The 12-team field of the top high school teams in the state featured 48 of the best golfers. In the wind and rain, Drew’s 76 was the third lowest in the tournament and helped Hingham come within 1 stroke of the championship.
If that wasn’t enough, the Harbormen went on to have four more matches last week where Drew was the medalist (lowest score) in one and shot a +2 against Duxbury at Black Rock Country Club.
“Drew played with poise at the Cape Cod National High School Invitational,” says head coach Eric Gill. “The conditions were wet and windy but Drew has worked hard all year for these moments and was able to deliver. I know he is looking forward to putting in a low score in the state tournament. Against Duxbury, Drew came in 2 over par to help us to a 10 stroke victory. No matter who or where we play you can always count on Drew to post a low score.”
