Weir River Water System – Water Conservation Restrictions
Current Status: Level 2 – Significant Drought
Lawn Irrigation Prohibited / Essential Hand Held Watering Allowed
All non-essential outdoor usage is prohibited (lawn irrigation; washing vehicles, exterior building surfaces, parking lots, driveways, and sidewalks; and, filling swimming pools). Hand held watering for gardens, landscape plantings and other essential needs is allowed.
Excessive demand by lawn irrigation systems is depleting storage tanks faster than we can fill them.
Proactive conservation efforts last week have had a positive impact on the system. Public cooperation and support has helped to maintain adequate tank levels for both potable water and fire protection. We are grateful to those in our service area who recognize the importance of these issues and have taken steps to assist with the response.
Customers had previously been using 1.9 million gallons of water daily between the hours of 2:00 AM and 9:00 AM for outdoor watering, which represents 35% of water produced daily by the system.
All violations and fines will be enforced.
- First Violation – Written Notice and $50.00 fine
- Second Violation – Written Notice and $100.00 fine
- Subsequent Violations – Termination of service, $100.00 fine, reactivation fees.
Furthermore, we appeal to our customers to observe basic indoor water conservation practices. If possible, delay indoor activities that use large quantities of water until off peak late evening hours.
We want to stress that Water Quality and Fire Protection remains our primary focus. Rapid changes in tank elevation can disrupt the water system, leading to discolored water and pressure fluctuations at this time of year.
