Richard Caldwell produced a collection of pictures he took of Hingham about 1970. He captioned this photo he took at the July 4 th Parade of George Bibby as “an old time Hinghamite and an amateur photographer.” Mr. Bibby, who lived on Pond Street, was a Meter Reader for the Hingham Water Company.
On his days off, with his camera, he roamed about town taking snapshots of buildings in the process of being torn down or built. While there are only 40+ of Bibby’s photos in the Historical Society archives to date, there are many more in private hands throughout the town. This photo is from “A Tour of Hingham” by Richard Caldwell.
The book is out of print but there is a copy at the Hingham Public Library. PS. This Richard Caldwell was not the science teacher at Central Junior.
