An extended period of dangerous heat and humidity is expected Wednesday, July 1 through Saturday, July 4. Heat index values may reach 98°F–112°F, with the most dangerous conditions expected Thursday and Friday.
Very warm overnight temperatures will provide little relief, increasing the risk of heat-related illness.
Protect Yourself
- Stay indoors in air-conditioned buildings whenever possible, especially during the afternoon and early evening.
- Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you do not feel thirsty. Avoid excessive alcohol and caffeine.
- Limit strenuous outdoor work and exercise. If you must be outside, take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning.
- Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.
- Check on elderly family members, neighbors, young children, and anyone with chronic medical conditions.
- Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle—even for a few minutes.
- Make sure pets have fresh water, shade, and a cool place to rest. Walk dogs early in the morning or after sunset to protect them from hot pavement.
