The Town of Hingham and the Office of the Harbormaster would like to provide an update on the reconstruction of the Hingham boat ramp.

The Massachusetts Office of Fishing and Boating Access (FBA) provides boat and canoe access sites, shore fishing areas, and sport fishing piers at more than 290 locations on coastal waters, great ponds and rivers throughout Massachusetts. The FBA is currently in the process of reconstructing the rapidly deteriorating Hingham boat ramp, located along Shipyard Drive. This State-funded and managed project provides critical public access to Hingham Bay and beyond.

While the project was scheduled to be completed by Memorial Day, due to supply chain and environmental challenges it is now scheduled for a limited access opening in late June.

The new ramp will be about the same width as the previous ramp, but will have a wooden pier and a floating wooden dock to help boaters safely unload and load boats onto their trailers.

In the meantime, those looking for alternative boat ramp access can visit the Fishing and Boating Access Sites page on the state's Executive Office and Energy and Environmental Affairs website.

For more information on the Hingham boat ramp, visit the boating page on the Hingham Police Department website.
