When you stay ready, you never have to get ready. You are already there.
Senior captain Peter Ford was more than ready when his number was called to take over at quarterback during Saturday’s Homecoming football game against Whitman-Hanson. Coming in during the second quarter, Ford led three scoring drives for Hingham in a 34-7 win.
“That moment when the team needs you can come at any second, so you always have to stay ready in case your number gets called,” said Ford, who was in a battle for the starting QB spot with junior Liam Merrigan during the pre-season. “I’ll stick with this team through anything and I’m ready to do whatever the team needs to help us win.”

Ford is a starting linebacker and plays on special teams, so directing the offense to three scoring drives against the Panthers was just another item to fit on his overflowing plate for the 4-2 Harbormen.
Hingham got the win without some key parts to the machine. Standout running back Justin Kosierowski and starting linemen Chris Cargo and Benji Izmirlic are all on the sideline as they recover from injuries.
Senior captain Riley Bello picked up some key yards in the running game to help the offense. When Ford needed a target down the field, senior captain Cole Palek, Andy Gerlach, Henry Weibley, and Jay Kargbo all stepped up with receptions.
“Riley was running the ball really well and that opened up opportunities to take some shots in the passing game,” said Ford.

A Cole Palek 11-yard TD pass from Liam Merrigan and a short scoring run from W-H’s Van Li tied the game early, but things would take a drastically different turn in less than a minute wrapped around the halftime break.
The game changed on a dime as Hingham found a way to score 20 points in only 28 seconds of clock time.
A Ford-to-Will Jones five-yard TD pass and ensuing PAT kick put Hingham on top 14-7 with :14 left in the half. A muffed kick return allowed Will Bray to scoop up the fumble and give Hingham the football at the 25 with :12 left.
Hingham only needed half that time as Ford tossed a scoring strike to Henry Weibley on first down. The kick missed, and the Panthers went to the locker room trailing 20-7.

It would get even worse when Ronan O’Brien took the second-half kickoff back 85 yards for a sudden score.
Riley Bello’s fourth-quarter touchdown run of one yard wrapped up the scoring and closed out a successful 3-0-2 Homecoming for Hingham athletics.
And now comes Hingham’s toughest opponent yet … Marshfield (Friday night, 7 p.m. at MHS).
The Rams (4-1) are a Week 2 24-8 loss to Mansfield away from a perfect start to the season. They raced out to a 42-0 halftime lead and then let the starters get some rest Friday night in a shutout victory over Plymouth North.
Marshfield QB Nate Rollinson started the season with a bang when he threw for 248 yards and five touchdown passes in the opener against Milton. He’s getting better each week and has run for three touchdowns.
The Rams’ up-tempo offense is all gas, no brakes at all times. Ten different players have a touchdown this season on offense, defense, as well as special teams.
