As both a nurse practitioner and a Hingham native, I am proud to announce my candidacy for the Hingham Board of Health. I believe that the health of a community significantly impacts the health of the individuals within it and that is why I am running in this year’s election.

I was born and raised in Hingham. After graduating from Milton Academy and Boston College, I went on to earn my Master’s in Nursing from Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions.  I have been working in the medical field for 20 years, and am currently the owner and clinical director of a healthcare practice, where I work to align health goals within operational constraints. I understand the balance involved with meeting health promotion needs within the structure of an organization.

I moved back to Hingham with my husband, TJ, to start our family. Our daughters attend Hingham Middle School and South Elementary. Since moving to Hingham fifteen years ago, I have been an active participant in the South and Middle School PTOs.  My other volunteer experience includes work with organizations such as School on Wheels, Hingham Food Pantry, Friends of the Homeless of the South Shore, Hingham Youth Field Hockey, and Christmas in the City.

My family has always been committed to serving the public; my mother and her parents were physicians. My grandmother broke barriers as the first female physician hired at the Marshfield Clinic in Wisconsin. In 1957 she was the first woman appointed to the Wisconsin State Board of Health. My father was president of the Hingham Community Center for several years. My parents instilled a sense of caring for others into me. TJ, who is in law enforcement, and I strive to pass that same sense of duty onto our daughters.

As a member of the Board of Health, one of my aspirations is to facilitate the continued communication between the community and the Board. I plan to utilize social media and traditional media as platforms to spread information and education. I would like to raise awareness of the actions of the Board that strengthen our community through prevention, health promotion and code enforcement.

I am excited to serve the Town that I love and humbly ask for your support in the upcoming election.
