Breweries and other local venues across the south shore are elevating their community event experience and customer engagement by introducing the latest trend: hand knitting. South Shore Blanket Parties, founded in 2022, is the host of these events as well as in-home, private parties.
“The private events are a win-win for both us and the venue,” explains Sarah Martin, Hingham resident and mother of 3 children under age 4. “They have us host a party on an otherwise slow night or month, and we bring in a crowd. This not only attracts new customers, it also boosts the atmosphere and leads to increased sales. In return, we are able to utilize their space.”
Knitters receive enough soft chenille yarn to make a full sized blanket, and receive a full two hour lesson on perfecting the hand knitting technique. If they don’t finish during the event, they are sent home with the proper knowledge and instruction to be able to cast off on their own.
“Hand knitting is a therapeutic and rewarding lifelong activity. It’s a great excuse to put down your phone and use your brain and finger muscles in a different way. It’s also much less intimidating than regular knitting because there are no needles or other tools involved,” reports Sarah.
This year, South Shore Blanket Parties has introduced some seasonal pop-up events, including Chunky Knit Pumpkins and, soon, Chunky Knit Pillows.
