The Hingham Land Conservation Trust (HLCT) invites you to its guided fall walk at Turkey Hill in Hingham and Cohasset on Sunday, October 16th at 2:00 PM.
The route includes a woodland path along the banks of the Weir River, a stroll through The Trustees of Reservations’ Weir River Farm, with grazing Belted Galloway cows, an uphill climb to the top of Turkey Hill, and a walk around the hilltop field. We will discuss the history of this scenic area, including its formation, early colonial settlement, its role in the War of 1812 and WWII, and its current uses, including in the effort to restore grassland bird species.
John Galluzzo will be our guide. John grew up in Hingham and Hull, and has an extensive background in the history of the South Shore. He writes a weekly history column for the Hull Times, a monthly column in South Shore Living Magazine, and has authored more than 50 books, including several on parkland walks. John currently serves as a grant writer for the South Shore YMCA.
We will gather for the walk at the Trustees of Reservations Turkey Hill parking lot, the first lot on the right side of Turkey Hill Lane in Hingham. Walkers should dress for the weather and be prepared to travel on uneven terrain.
