January 28, 2022 Letter Submitted by the South Shore Snap Board of Directors
Hats off to Senator Patrick O'Connor who continues to contribute to our South Shore Special Needs Athletic Partnership (SNAP) community in every way! We are most grateful.
South Shore SNAP has begun our 8th year of creating opportunities for those who otherwise have limited access to youth sports and the many benefits that come along. Our programs are designed to integrate children with special needs with one another and with high school mentors who assist our coaches in getting everyone involved in our activities. These programs have provided a meaningful community experience for the children and families we serve and have had an equal positive impact on our young mentors. From the beginning, Senator O'Connor has actively supported our programs, families, and kids. From State House Certificates for each attendee in our Summer Program to speaking to our parents at SNAP events, he's been with us advocating for the opportunities we are proud to offer.
Knowing that our organization is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, our Board of Directors works hard to raise the money needed to support all our programming, as well as pay our mentors in the Summer Program. With increased attention to safety due to COVID, this past year has been fiscally challenging for us to continue to safely run our programs, compounded by not having the same ability to fundraise.
Senator O'Connor understands our mission, the importance of community offerings, and the aforementioned challenges. Senator O'Connor fought very hard to secure funds in the State's budget to augment our fundraising activities, allowing us to provide all the programs and activities our community desperately needed in a year where the odds were against us.
We, the South Shore SNAP Board, our families, and mentors alike, thank Senator O'Connor for all he does to support our mission, in the good times and especially the times more challenging.
