Boston College High School is proud to announce that Hingham resident Brian O’Hanley ’03 was recently inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame.

Brian O’Hanley was the 2003 recipient of the Paul J. Hunter Outstanding Athlete award, proving his talent on both the ice and the baseball diamond. While O’Hanley was named a two-time Catholic Conference All-Star for his baseball accomplishments, his true passion was hockey.

After a difficult start to the 2001-2002 season, O’Hanley and the Eagles battled back to make the Super 8 tournament, ultimately winning the championship 2-0 against Catholic Memorial. O’Hanley was unstoppable during this run, leading the team in scoring. He was named a Catholic Conference All-Star during his junior season and set out to lead the Eagles as a captain to a second consecutive championship.

During his senior year, O’Hanley led the team to a 19-0 regular season record and a 22-1 state finalist season. He was named Catholic Conference Co-MVP, Patriot Ledger All-Scholastic, and to the Boston Herald and Boston Globe Dream Team after scoring 25 goals during the team’s 35-game unbeaten streak that extended into the Super 8 finals.

After a successful post-graduate year at Salisbury School, O’Hanley once again became an Eagle, joining the Boston College hockey team. In 2003, O’Hanley was selected by the San Jose Sharks in the ninth round and 267th overall in the 2003 NHL entry draft and went on to play nearly 10 years of professional hockey.

O’Hanley was inducted alongside the following 2022 honorees, each of whom was recognized for their significant contributions to the BC High athletic program:

Frank Ustach ’01, Sailing
Brian Fitzgibbons ’01, Football & Lacrosse

In addition, the school’s highest athletic honors, the Paul J. Hunter '53 Man for Others Award and the James E. Cotter '55 Courage Award, were bestowed upon two very deserving members of the BC High Community during the induction ceremony.

The Paul J. Hunter '53 Man for Others Award, given annually to a person who shows leadership in community, church, and profession, was presented to Tom Cotter ’06.
