Hingham Celebrates America’s 250th: Community Events Calendar Arriving In Mailboxes This Week

June 10, 226 Submitted By The Hingham Historical Society

Residents are encouraged to keep an eye on their mailboxes this week as the new Hingham Celebrates America’s 250th Summer 2026 Calendar of Events arrives at households across town.

Created to help residents and visitors participate in Hingham’s commemoration of the 250th anniversary of American Independence, the brochure highlights dozens of community events taking place this summer, many of them occurring within the next six weeks.

While not intended to be a comprehensive listing of every commemorative activity, the calendar showcases events organized by the Town of Hingham’s 250th Task Force, the July 4th Parade Committee, Hingham Recreation, and numerous civic and cultural organizations, including the Hingham Historical Society, Hingham Maritime Center, South Shore Conservatory, and Hingham Unity Council.

The design, printing, and mailing of the brochure were generously underwritten by the Hingham Historical Society as part of its commitment to helping residents connect with Hingham’s remarkable Revolutionary history and the community-wide celebration of America’s 250th birthday.

“Two hundred and fifty years ago, Hingham residents played an outsized role in the fight for American independence,” said Deirdre Anderson, Executive Director of the Hingham Historical Society. “This summer presents a once-in-a-generation opportunity for our community to come together, celebrate our shared history, and participate in events that honor the people and places that shaped our nation.”

In addition to sponsoring the calendar, the Hingham Historical Society continues to offer guided tours of historic Hingham Tuesday through Saturday and is commemorating the anniversary year with the publication of a new narrative history, Hingham in the American Revolution: Not the Gift of Kings, by award-winning author and Town Historian James B. Conroy.

The community is invited to celebrate the book’s publication at a launch party on Thursday, June 18, at the Hingham Heritage Museum. Guests will enjoy an author reading, refreshments, and the opportunity to purchase signed copies of the book.

The calendar also highlights several signature community events, including:

The All-American Picnic & Dance Party in Hingham Harbor on July 2

Hingham’s annual Independence Day Road Race and July 4th Parade

Sharing the Spirit of America: A Community Reading of the Declaration of Independence on July 8 at 6:00 p.m. at the Old Ship Meeting House

The July 8 reading will be synchronized with communities across the nation, commemorating the first public readings of the Declaration of Independence that took place in July 1776.

Residents are encouraged to save the brochure, share it with family and friends, and visit Hingham250.org for additional events, updates, and opportunities to participate.

America turns 250 only once. This summer, Hingham invites everyone to join in the celebration.
