There is a sweet little booklet written in 1948 by Alan F. Hersey for the Hingham Mutual Fire Insurance Company. It is called “Historic Hingham”. It is the story of the insurance company interspersed with stories about the town of Hingham. In it is a copy of a drawing of the house at 413 Main Street, the Wilson Whiton House, policy number 1.
Mr. Whiton was at one time a Ship Chandler, the Treasurer of the Hingham Cordage Factory on Central Street and a committee member of the New North Church on Lincoln Street. He was elected and served in the legislature for two terms.
It is interesting to note that this photo was taken in April of 1974 when the Hingham Historic Commission was cataloging homes that later went on the Hingham Historic Inventory.
This photograph is from the Hingham Historical Society.
