On Saturday, Hingham Crew traveled three hours down to Lake Waramaug, in beautiful New Preston, CT, to take on some of the best crews in New England. Through intermittent rain showers and steady wind gusts, the boys and girls of Hingham Crew battled hard as they continue to fight for points in an effort to secure their spots at New Englands. With several windy days in a row preventing consistent practice on the water, the team has had to rely on their aerobic conditioning and power to carry them to a series of strong performances.

First varsity presses hard for the finish line.

The racing day started with the girls first varsity, who faced off against private powerhouse Deerfield, as well as rivals Bedford and Boston Latin, and host Kent. Coxswain Emily Gu, stroke Emme Beaudoin, Izzy Wagner, Louisa Orth, Eliza Powers, Sophia Santarelli, Thea Migliaccio, Coco Prohm, and bow Aubrey Fairfield defeated hosts Kent and finished just two tenths of a second out of second place. The close finish between the boats places Hingham in great shape for the coming races at New England’s and States.

In the next race, the boys third varsity, with coxswain Spike Govoni, stroke Michael Catalfano, Ryan Potter, Brendan Conroy, Asher Ellis, Jack O’Leary, Mikey Syp, Miles McLucas, and bow James Anderson faced a very strong field, but managed to defeat Stonington and Farmington, finishing just behind Brunswick. The boys demonstrated a terrific kick, and would have finished in first place in the B final, had they been seeded lower.
