In the Hingham Public Library there is a collection of newsletters from the Naval Ammunition Depot. Steve Gill digitized every copy of ‘Shot and Shell’ in the collection and borrowed a few that were missing to present an almost complete series. These are the stories about the people who worked in the Depot, their home lives and their achievements during the WWII era. This picture taken from an ‘Shot and Shell’ July 1944 shows a king-size swimming pool near the Marine barracks. Pfc. Higginbottom said: “If you are hot, take a dive in the drink but if you are thirsty, drink in a dive!” Stop at the library reference desk and ask how to see the newsletters.
