This photo and caption came from a Kimball family album. It was given to the Bare Cove Fire Museum and copied. Later, the Family thought it would be more appropriate at the Hingham Historical Society, and it was sent there.
These are the words of Jim Kimball: “The Centre ball team was made up mostly Hingham Centre Players and played mostly in the years 1890-91. Their chief rivals were a team of down town players called the Beacons. There was also a West Hingham team in ’91.
In this picture, left to right were back row, Bill Shedd, Henry Ripley, Fred Lane, Frank Reed, Wilbur Litchfield, Harry Shedd, front row, Billy Burke, Charles Howard, Scorer, Wallie Pratt, William Stodder, Rhodes Ripley, and Tom Ware. They played most of their games on the Common and I was an enthusiastic “rooter”.
There were a number of other men who played on the team from time to time including Brooks, Bill Ripley, E. Burr and Ed Lane.”
