Valerie Faye (Gilbert) Davis

Valerie Faye (Gilbert) Davis, 88, of Hingham, Massachusetts died peacefully on April 10, 2024 at her home surrounded by loved ones.

Born in Medford, Mass. September 3, 1935, she was the daughter of William B. Gilbert and Laura E. (Steed) Gilbert.  She grew up in Cambridge, Mass. and moved to Hingham in 1951.  She graduated from Hingham High School (1953) and Pierce Secretarial School.  She married Robert B. Davis in 1957 in St. Ann’s Church, Hull, Mass., and was married to him for 40 years until his death in 1997.

The family built a second home in North Conway, NH, and she and Bob loved spending time in the mountains with their dear friends Jane & Bill Vafides.  She worked at Noble’s Camera Shop for many years, and was a valued employee at her sons’ business.  She met her friends, the “Q-tips” every morning for coffee, and never said no to a visit to Foxwoods.  She volunteered at Wellspring in Hull for many years.

She was predeceased by her beloved brother, the late William R. Gilbert (Beverly) of Hingham. She is survived by four children, Linda S. Davis (the late Susan Drennan) of Hingham, Jodi A. Eromin (James) of Scituate, Brian R. Davis of Hingham, and Paul W. Davis (Carol) of Cohasset.  Her adored grandchildren include Michael J. Eromin (Rebecca Ashley), Alison R. Eromin (Brendan McQuade), Elizabeth A. Eromin, Evan R. Davis-Drennan, Lindsey E. Davis, Christian A. Davis, and Emma B. Davis (Nicholas Hall).  Her great grandchildren are Silas McQuade and Eliot McQuade.

For both Val and Bob, family was their life, and their most fervent wish was that their children love and support each other, and thanks to their model and guidance, their wish was fulfilled. Val was known for her great sense of humor and she could always make her children and grandchildren laugh.

Her final years were infinitely enhanced by the loving care of Tina, to whom the family is eternally grateful.  Mom wanted to remain at home, and we couldn’t have done it without Tina and the wonderful care she’s provided to “Nan” for the last 2½ years.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation on Wednesday, April 17 at 10:00 am at St. Ann’s Church, 208 Samoset Ave, Hull MA.  Funeral Mass at 11:00 am.  Burial to follow.  Reception at South Shore Country Club, Hingham, MA.
