The Unicorn Singers invite you to join us for our spring 2023 concert The British are Coming! Our program pays homage to Queen Elizabeth II who was known, and appreciated, both for her down-to-earth nature and for her sense of humor. Ranging from the sublime to the ridiculous, the concert will feature George Frideric Handel’s Zadok the Priest, written to mark the coronation of King George II in 1727, Thomas Tallis’ O Nata Lux associated with the Feast of the Transfiguration, and Benjamin Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb, depicting varied and beautiful images of worship. Our show will culminate with selections from Gilbert and Sullivan’s first international hit, H.M.S. Pinafore, poking good-natured fun at the Royal Navy and the English obsession with social status. The Music Director would like to think Queen Elizabeth II would have appreciated our program, filled with poignant beauty… and a couple of jabs. The Unicorn Singers, directed by Randy McGee, are based in Hingham and include singers from Hingham and throughout the South Shore. Hingham members include Tracy Allen, Lynn Anderson, Ed Bartholomew, Betsy Clifford, Sally Davenport, Jo-An Heileman, Jeffrey Mailhot, Patty McDonald, and Kathy and Bill Reardon, and Stewart Wood.
This concert is supported by a grant from the Mass Cultural Council.
