The following statement was provided to the Hingham Anchor today by Select Board Chair William Ramsey:
“We received the bids yesterday for the proposed Hingham Center for Active Living and I am happy to announce that the cost to construct the building is now $25,795,934. This number represents a reduction from an estimated cost a year ago of $34 million and the proposed town meeting warrant article of $29.9 million, which is a reduction of approximately 25%.
“Throughout this process we have been listening to concerns expressed by residents about the need to reduce costs associated with the project and worked with the OPM (Owner’s project manager) and design team to value-engineer the proposal.”

Hello, I never saw the design until now. It looks like a nursing home. Its not inviting. The only good thing that looks promising is the one floor. Problem with one floor it looks very long. Will the elderly have to walk the length of the building to get to activities.
Where’s this money coming from? More taxes? Do seniors even use the resources provided by the town to date? You would have to tell me a sr center is overcrowded and we need more room to even consider it. Otherwise your wasting our $
