This month in the Hingham Public Library Art Galleries

The Light by Erin Donnellan Kroninger

October 12, 2023 Submitted by The Hingham Public Library

The Library’s Dolphin Gallery currently features the art of Erin Donnellan Kroninger. The exhibit, Searching for the Light, will be on display through November 2. This show is sponsored by the North River Arts Society; and the public is welcome to join the artist for a reception on Saturday, Oct. 14 from 2:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

About the exhibit Kroninger says “I find my inspiration in nature – the infinite range of colors, lines, shapes and atmosphere. As I study a scene, my attention is always drawn to light and its effects. I strive to capture the luminosity in a variety of ways. As I paint, I build the surface of my work by applying multiple layers of oil paint (and sometimes cold wax), retaining previous marks and colors, while leaving trace results of others, or obscuring them altogether. My approach strives to create a depth and history which results in a complex and nuanced surface of color, harmony and balance.”

The Library’s Clemens Gallery features Astrid Donnellan’s exhibit A Lifetime Journey of Creativity. The exhibit will be on display through November 2.

Donnellan says “It was suggested to me 10 years ago by my daughter-in-law Sandra Donnellan, that I should try oil painting at the North River Arts in Marshfield. I signed up for weekly class with renowned artist/teacher, Hingham’s Margaret McWethy. I arrived at class the first day not knowing a thing about plein air or still life painting. Ten years have passed and I have steeped myself into learning. I have struggled and laid awake at night wondering if I will ever be able to produce decent paintings. I am constantly reading books and art magazines, and I can’t thank my teacher enough for steering me to be the artist I always wanted to be. Through passion, persistence and hard work, I have found the courage to have this exhibit and hope those of you who view it will enjoy my creative endeavors. For me…art is a never ending process of learning.”
