The Tee Club is a women’s golf league that plays golf at the South Shore Country Club in Hingham. The Tee Club was started in 1995 by a group of Hingham businesswomen golfers who wanted to promote golfing among other businesswomen as a way of networking and relaxing after work hours.
Hingham residents Nancy Boyle, Noreen Neville, Marge Reardon and Joan Ruggere were the Tee Club founding members. In September of 2022, Marge and Nancy along with Colleen Gallagher passed on management of the Tee club to Hingham residents Liz Welch, Peggy Hovsepian, Necia O’Neill and Shellee Golden, who have taken on this challenge wholeheartedly. Over the past 30 years Tee Club members have formed strong friendships through their common love of the game of golf.
Tee Club membership is strong at 78 active members who come from all over the South Shore to golf Thursday evenings. The Tee club welcomes women golfers of any age and any level of skill; however, they need to be aware of golf etiquette (or willing to learn) and be able to keep up with the pace of the game. Monthly competitions are light and focused. A weekly gathering at Ironwood (formerly Greenside Grille) after their round of golf is also enjoyed by many members.
For over a decade The Tee Club has awarded an annual scholarship to young female golfers that want to improve their golf game. As part of the scholarship selection process applicants submit an essay discussing how golf has influenced their life, how they would use the scholarship to improve their golf game, how they were introduced to the game and hopes for improving their game. Past scholarship winners have been from Hingham and many surrounding towns. The Tee Club will give the scholarship again this year, so get your essays in girls!
Recently, a plaque with the scholarship recipients’ names and towns has been acquired. This plaque will be hung on the wall near the ladies’ locker room at SSCC. To date, the Tee Club has given out more than ten thousand dollars in scholarship monies for golf lessons to these recipients.
The Tee Club is a strong supporter of the Dana Farber Pink Ribbon Tournament. Dozens of Tee Club members and their spouses volunteer and play in the Pink Ribbon Tournament. It takes many volunteers to execute a successful Pink Ribbon Tournament, please consider volunteering and reach out to Christine Rose at pinkribbonsscc@yahoo.com
A large number of Tee Club members participate in golf tournaments run by the Women’s Golf Association at the South Shore Country Club. Many members also take advantage of the annual Fall golf trip.
