The Arts Festival At Second Parish Returns In May For It’s 68th Year Of Celebrating Artists And Creating Community

May 4, 2026 Submitted By Second Parish Hingham

~Opening Night, Thursday May 7th, 5pm-8pm~

The work of artists and artisans from the South Shore, Boston, and other New England areas will be on display and for sale during the 10-day show. The show features fine art in a variety of mediums including oil and water color original framed paintings, photography, and mixed media as well as a large selection of unframed prints and originals; one of a kind jewelry, pottery, needle felting, and many whimsical objects perfect for gift giving for any holiday. Our show is well timed for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, graduations, weddings, and more. The raffle table is a perennial favorite and made possible by community partnerships with many local restaurants and small businesses.

This festival has a long and rich history. In the 1950’s church members started selling frames and prints at a church fair. This eventually blossomed into the Second Parish Art Show with the help and cooperation of Frank Vining Smith, a church member and a nationally known marine artist. We still honor him today with the Frank Vining Smith Award selected by popular vote. In recent years the show has evolved to become not only an arts festival, but a 10-day community event. The Opening Night Reception provides a chance to meet the artists and see a preview of the show. In addition, several special programs are held throughout the duration of the show including Join us for drop-in evening social hours, Paint Your Own Wine Glass to bring home, live storytelling with Hull Firefly, a drop-in art workshop for kids on the first Saturday of the show with a professional face painter (vendor fee) as well as a kids scavenger hunt with prizes, and an all-day Mother’s Day celebration toasting all the special women with Prosecco, sparkling lemonade, and sweet treats. Join us for any or all of these events. Please see the event flyer for more details.

The Arts Festival is a major fundraiser for Second Parish, a church dedicated to community service and the preservation of its 4 historic buildings, our 1742 sanctuary, the 1850 parsonage and barn and a rare hearse house. Second Parish houses and helps to support the Hingham Food Pantry. We provide space for several AA groups, and each month we donate the second week’s collection to a variety of local charities. Second Parish also offers the public use of a recently created Serenity Path, a beautiful natural resource that extends through a wooded area with many plant species, glacial rocks, and wildlife habitats.
