The search for an executive director of student services to replace Dr. Suzanne Vinnes — who is moving on at the end of the school year to take another position — is underway.
Supt. of Schools Margaret Adams expressed gratitude for Vinnes’ years of service with the Hingham Public Schools and presented a timeline for the hiring of a new director.
“We posted the position on Friday and have started to recruit for the position,” Adams told the School Committee Monday night.
“We will use social media and other forms [of communication] to gather an applicant pool.”
A screening committee — led by Human Resources Director Susan D’Amato — will consist of two teachers, one School Committee member, one curriculum director, two students, one principal, and two parents from the Special Education Parent Advisory Council (any parent who has a child with special education services).
“We’re looking for interested folks who would like to participate,” Adams said. “We hope to have the process completed by the end of March.”
The screening committee members are expected to be named in the next couple of weeks.
The Executive Director of Student Services coordinates all Student Services programming, including special education, nursing, English Language Learners, guidance, and counseling within the school district, ensuring compliance with special education laws and regulations at both the state and federal levels, according to the job description for the position.
The director also develops — in conjunction with the school community — a vision for special education, guidance, and counseling programming that includes both short-term and long-term goals based upon ongoing program evaluation, along with many other responsibilities.
In addition, funding opportunities are sought by the director via state, federal, and private grant applications “to support innovative programs that enhance the educational process within the Hingham Public Schools.”
