Following Foster School Principal Matt Scheufele’s recent resignation effective next August, Supt. of Schools Katie Roberts presented a timeline for hiring his replacement to the school committee this week.
“In the coming weeks, we will seek input from Foster elementary staff, students, families, and community members as we begin the search,” Roberts said. “We are hopeful that we will be able to name a new principal in early spring [of 2026] to allow ample time for overlap with Principal Scheufele, ensuring a smooth leadership transition.”
The tentative schedule for the recruitment and appointment of a new Foster School principal is as follows:
- profile development – to include focus groups with staff, students, and community members: November 2025 – to be completed by Dec. 1
- advertising and search committee formation: Dec. 1 through Jan 16
- committee orientation, training, and resume review, Jan. 20-23
interviews: Jan. 26-Feb. 6 - identification of finalists: Feb. 6
- reference checks: Feb. 9-13
- schedule finalists’ interviews: Feb. 14-22 (February vacation)
- finalists’ interviews: Feb. 23-27
- final appointment: March
- induction: April-July
The screening committee will consist of the following to represent the community:
- co-chairs Maryann Foley and Erica Pollard
- two parents
- two staff members selected by the Hingham Education Association
- one elementary principal
- one assistant principal
- one curriculum director
- one school committee member
“The district will simultaneously be conducting a search for a permanent Hingham High School principal,” Roberts said. “Over the coming weeks, we will seek input from HHS staff, students, families, and community members through focus groups, surveys, and opportunities to participate in the interview process.” John Buckey is serving as interim principal.
