School Committee’s evaluation of supt. of schools scheduled for July

Superintendent Dr. Margaret Adams

June 19, 2024 By Carol Britton Meyer

In preparation for her upcoming evaluation by the School Committee in July, Supt. of Schools Margaret Adams this week presented  a progress report on her goals for the current school year.

These relate to ensuring in part the district’s continuous improvement and providing leadership for implementing comprehensive plans identifying the district’s most critical needs; strengthening the Hingham Public Schools procedures for hiring, recruitment, and retention of staff; performing a comprehensive program evaluation of student services; and “professional practice” related to her participation in the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents’ “New Superintendent Induction Program” to ensure the district’s continued focus on improvement.

On the School Committee side, each member will fill out an evaluation form providing feedback on each of the goals and the standards they relate to from the Massachusetts Association of School Committees’ guide on evaluating a superintendent.

School Committee Chair Nes Correnti will compile the individual evaluations and create a composite “summative evaluation” (an assessment of the superintendent’s overall performance) that will be presented, discussed, and voted on during a meeting that will take place in July.

The summative evaluation process is based on a rating of the superintendent’s progress toward his or her goals and overall instructional leadership, management, operations, family/community engagement, and professional culture.

“The superintendent receives a rating for each goal and rating on each standard,” Correnti told the Hingham Anchor in response to an email inquiry. “The ratings of the goals and rating on the standards are combined into an overall summative rating.”
