NVNA and Hospice, a non-profit home health care and hospice agency serving 27 communities on the South Shore, today announced that Sara Abbott has been appointed as chair of its Charitable Fund Board of Trustees. She succeeds Michael Baker, who has served as chair since 2021.
With a daily census of more than 700 patients, NVNA and Hospice expanded their patient services in 2013 by opening the Pat Roche Hospice Home. Abbott has been involved with and dedicated to the organization’s mission for years. Elected to the Board of Trustees in 2015, she has served on the executive board since 2018, most recently serving as Vice Chair of Nominating.
With a professional background in major giving, Abbott has held leadership positions in the non-profit sector, most notably the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
In 2005, Abbott co-founded Blondes vs. Brunettes, a charity flag football game to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association. Now formally known as RivALZ, this annual event has been played in over 50 cities nationwide and has raised over $18 million.
In 2014, Abbott founded NVNA and Hospice’s signature event, The 12 , which has raised over $2.3 million for patient care at the Pat Roche Hospice Home in the eight years since its inception.
“I am honored to step into this role for the NVNA and Hospice Charitable Fund,” said Abbott. “We have a knowledgeable and dedicated Board of Trustees, and I am eager to work with our Board to increase our funding for this critical time in hospice care.”
“Thanks to our generous community, we have raised over $15 million for our hospice home since we opened our doors in 2013,” remarked Renee McInnes, MBA, RN, CEO of NVNA and Hospice. “We remain focused on expanding hospice patient care, and philanthropy is critical. We could not achieve this level of success without our fundraising Board of Trustees, and with Sara at the helm, we are poised for further growth.”
Abbott resides in Hingham with her husband Matt and their three sons.
