My name is Rita Sandonato Da Silva; I was born and raised in Quincy, MA, and now call Hingham my home. While my mother was a homemaker, my father was a Civil Engineer who owned and operated two construction companies. I fondly remember spending my summers working alongside him and believe that it was there that my passion for planning and real estate was born.

Though I majored in sociology at Bridgewater State, becoming a Realtor and a mother were my true callings. When my husband Carlos and I adopted our two sons Andre and Edson from Brazil, we knew that we wanted to give them the best possible education. Eventually, we made the decision to move to Hingham, where I now work as a realtor for Jack Conway. Though my kids are both in college now, I truly enjoyed my time volunteering at Plymouth River Elementary School, Hingham Middle School, and as part of the boosters for both track and soccer at Hingham High School when they were young.

I believe that one of the major challenges Hingham faces is how to go about supporting new development while at the same time protecting our close-knit, and safe neighborhoods. When elected, I will work collectively with my colleagues on the Planning Board, as well as with other appointed and elected officials to ensure that our quality of life and appreciation for open space is maintained. Development is inevitable; but with proper planning and the right ideas, it can be done thoughtfully and with respect to both the environment as well as the community.

I am excited to join a group of highly qualified professionals with varied backgrounds, and am coming in with an open mind, hoping to both teach and learn. As a parent, realtor, and community member, I believe that I can bring a unique perspective to the planning board. When elected, I will strive to be an active contributing member, who is ready to listen to the constituents and I will do my best to be an exemplary public servant.

Even though I am running unopposed I respectfully ask for your vote on Saturday, May 2nd.

Regards,

Rita Da Silva
