Several retiring Hingham Public Schools educators were recognized by the School Committee last night, with Chair Nes Correnti thanking them for their commitment to education and to all the students they have worked with and helped along the way.

The efforts of High School Administrative Assistant Monica Black; High School science teacher and coach Dan Clune; Hingham Middle School Nurse Susanne Hallisey; Cecilia Hanlon (South School computer science); Foster School teacher Madeline Martin; and South School teacher Lisa Reith were acknowledged.

Correnti took a few minutes “to celebrate and honor some truly remarkable educators. It’s with mixed emotions that we say farewell and express our deepest gratitude to our retiring teachers.”

She went on to say how fortunate HPS has been “to benefit from their commitment to education and our students. I frequently share the stories of the impact teachers have had on me, even all these years later.”

Correnti continued, “I am not an educator and could not do what you do day in and day out. My only claim to fame on imparting any wisdom was when I was able to volunteer to coach a before-school program, called BOKS. A dad of a student recently shared that some of my “BOKs healthy living” tips made its way into a family discussion as this student still strives for the required hours of sleep.

I know there are current and former students who will have similar stories about each of you. I hope these messages of gratitude make their way to you.

You’ve shaped the minds of students and inspired so many to reach their full potential. The impact extends far beyond the classroom walls, leaving an indelible mark on the future leaders.

Retirement marks the end of an era for these educators, but it also signals a new chapter, filled with well-deserved relaxation and personal pursuits. May your retirement be filled with joy, good health, and countless new adventures. Congratulations and best wishes on this new chapter of your lives!”
