There are more Hingham girls having fun playing softball now than at any time in Hingham’s history! Hingham Girls Softball (HGS) is a unique organization that has options for players from kindergarten all the way through 8th grade. During the last 5 years, there have been a consistently growing number of girls having fun playing and learning the sport at every level. There are more than 200 girls playing and improving their skills game in Hingham this year alone.

During the spring, the girls from Hingham will also play against other local towns. Norwell, Cohasset, Scituate and Hull enter teams in the league. Last year was Hull’s first year and they are back with more teams for their second year. Every town increased the number of teams this year and there are now than 40 teams from 2nd grade to 8th grade.

Additionally, there are another 10+ teams in K and 1 that only play in Hingham and offers a great learning opportunity for young girls and a fun introduction to the sport of softball.  For the youngest K-1 players, HGS is now offering Saturday afternoon practices/games (just once per week and after soccer!) to make it accessible for as many girls as possible.

One of the highlights of the spring season for older girls is the All-Star game that is traditionally held in Cohasset – there is a fun competitive game, the girls have the opportunity to play with and get to know girls from the surrounding towns, there is an MC announcing the game, the stands are packed with fans, and there is free food and music for the entire family.

This is not only a spring sport! HGS offers the ability to play organized, competitive softball during the spring, summer and fall too! During the summer and fall, there is an opportunity for players to travel a little further and play in fun local tournaments that offer competitive games as well as activities for entire families. During the winter months, HGS offers winter clinics so girls can work on every part of their game from fielding and catching to pitching and hitting.

The growing popularity of the sport at the youth level along with a new coaching staff has translated into recent success at the high school. HGS offers opportunities to work with the players that recently graduated from the program at the clinics during the winter and throughout the spring and summer. HGS also offers scholarships to graduating seniors who played at a younger age.

The 2023 spring season starts soon on April 10th but there is still time to register at www.hinghamgirlssoftball.com.  Register today and get ready to play ball and have fun with friends this spring!
