Rec Commissioner joins Bathing Beach Trustees

Hingham Bathing Beach, Memorial Day Weekend 2020

May 20, 2021 by Carol Britton Meyer

Adrienne Ramsey, a member of the Recreation Commission, was appointed on an interim basis to replace Bathing Beach Trustee Chris Daly -- who stepped down recently -- during a joint Trustees and Select Board meeting this week. A permanent appointment will be made at the next Annual Town Meeting.

Ramsey, a former member of the Harbor Development Committee, is the mother of three Foster School students.

When asked to share her ideas about how to enhance the Bathing Beach area, Ramsey suggested in part adding educational programs to complement the historical plaques that line the boardwalk, science activities for schoolchildren, adult fitness classes, and offerings for seniors at the harbor.

Improving pedestrian access to the waterfront to make it more user-friendly tops her list of recommendations.

The other candidate was former Harbor Development Committee member Bruce MacAloney, who now sits on the Public Safety Facility Building Committee.

Among his suggestions when interviewed was making the Bathing Beach area "a better place to go" by improving its appearance, for one thing, and perhaps adding a play area for children.

The Trustees and Select Board members all agreed that it was a tough decision between two qualified candidates.

  1. Where are the showers to be installed for Hingham Beach and when?
Swimmers have been swimming at the beach for several weeks now.
    Thank you

  2. I am questioning where the showers are at the bathing beach.
We do not have a bathing beach bathhouse. There is no place to change your clothing and take a shower. There is a ladies and men’s room in the restaurant across from the beach through the parking lot. Walking through the cars entering and leaving the parking lot is dangerous.
    Thank you for your reply.
