The Plymouth River School basketball court and overarching pavilion – which are owned by the town – are expected to be reconstructed by next summer, thanks to a $333,500 grant awarded by the Community Preservation Committee through Hingham Rec combined with a $10,000 donation from the PTO.
LKB Engineering, PLLC, was chosen from among four respondents to a Request for Qualifications for the Plymouth River Basketball Court Design and Permitting Project as project manager.
The LKB team has worked in Hingham on various projects for nearly two decades, designing and permitting educational and athletic facilities that include the Hingham High School and Notre Dame Academy athletic fields, Foster Elementary School, and South Shore Country Club, among others.
The project goal in part, according to a presentation by LKB to the select board this week, is to “provide Hingham residents and the Plymouth River School community with a safe environment to enjoy basketball and other sports activities” and to “preserve and rejuvenate a unique existing facility that provides value to many in the community.”
If all goes as planned, permitting would take place in the fall and winter of 2026-2027, followed by preparation of bid documents next February, a bid in March, and the start of construction in June 2027 – with a targeted completion date of Aug. 2027.
The select board this week authorized Town Administrator Tom Mayo to sign the agreement for the design and permitting of the project, not to exceed $70,000 of the total $343,500 budget.
