In addition to learning academics, the students at Old Colony Montessori School learn about charitable giving and ways in which they can make a difference.
Throughout the school year the students organized fundraisers and food drives for local charities.
In December, at the Holiday Shopping Spree students can purchase items that are donated by parents for family and friends on their holiday gift list. The proceeds from the workshop are donated to a charity of the student’s choice. This year the check was presented to the local Habitat for Humanity chapter, Tamara Scheiss.
At the annual May Day Celebration, the students hosted a lemonade stand. The students make lemonade from scratch, which is a lot of lemons! This year the proceeds from the lemonade stand were donated to Boston Children’s Hospital and the check was presented Dr. Jason Fischer.
The students wrapped up the school year with a Food Drive, collecting over fifty items for the Hingham Food Panty.
Old Colony Montessori School is proud of our students’ sense of community and shares in their enthusiasm for discovering ways to give back to the community.
For the past 60 years, OCMS has been nurturing lifelong learners, serving children ages 18 months to 9 years old. Old Colony Montessori School is the oldest Montessori institution south of Boston and is one of the only AMI (Association Montessori International -certified Montessori schools in the area. OCMS students develop a natural love of learning that lasts a lifetime, and approach the world with self-confidence, intellectual curiosity, joy, and respect.
We are excited for a year of celebrations including a young alumni Birthday bash in the Fall, an adult alumni/current families gala in May 2024 and much more!
