Obituary: Ingrid Hewitt

HEWITT, Ingrid, 92, of Hingham, MA died peacefully at Queen Anne Nursing Home on January 10, 2024. In the aftermath of World War II, Ingrid Tamm relocated from her birthplace of Tallinn Estonia to America. She arrived at Port Jefferson, New York when she was 17-years old.

Ingrid, her younger sister Julika, her mother Alice, and her father Arthur were welcomed by several New Hampshire families. The Tamms eventually settled in Concord, and Ingrid graduated from Concord High School in 1951. In 1955, she earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of New Hampshire.

Ingrid married Richard Hewitt and they had two sons; Peter and Thomas. Ingrid worked as a professional histologist at Cortland Memorial Hospital in Cortland New York.

Ingrid’s ashes will be interred at Blossom Hill Cemetery in Concord, New Hampshire at a future date. Those of you who were lucky enough to know her, know her love of animals. She would be pleased by donations in her memory supporting the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) or your local animal shelter.
