Elisabeth (Betty) Bardsley Nelson, age 89, peacefully entered the presence of the Lord on March 4th, surrounded by her loving family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend who touched the lives of many with her kindness and unwavering love. Most importantly, she was devoted to Jesus Christ and lived a life of faith in him.
Born October 4, 1935, Betty graduated from Hingham High School in 1954, where she served in student government and on the varsity cheerleading squad. She later became a dental assistant and enjoyed her profession. In 1959, she married Hjalmar Nelson, and together they enjoyed 58 years of happiness, raising two daughters, Amy Conant and Laurie Schut.
Betty was a devoted and faithful member of South Shore Baptist Church, where she served with love and dedication throughout the years. She actively contributed to the youth group, fellowship committee, and Community Bible Study, always seeking to make a meaningful impact on the lives of others. Betty’s heart found deep joy in prayer, immersing herself in scripture, and offering selfless service to those around her. She was constantly uplifted by the sense of comfort and community that came from worshiping her Lord and Savior, cherishing every opportunity to grow in faith and share the love of Christ.
Betty is survived by her brother Robert Bardsley; daughter and son-in-law Laurie and Randy Schut of Plymouth, grandchildren Zachary, Leah, and her husband Scott Reed, and great-granddaughter Evelyn; daughter and son-in-law Amy and Keith Conant of Gloucester, grandchildren Nate and his wife Christina, great-grandson Theodore; and Alex and his wife Brittany, along with great-grandchildren Elisabeth and Michael; nieces Bonnie Allen, Robin Bardsley, and Debbie Zicht and their families. She is now at peace in the arms of her Savior, reunited in Heaven with her husband Hjalmar, sister-in-law Dorothy Bardsley, and her parents.
