Massachusetts has been experiencing a sharp increase in COVID‐19 cases since early November, according to the state Department of Public Health, "and we’re seeing a significant more-recent uptick in new COVID‐19 in Hingham as well," Town Administrator Tom Mayo told the Select Board this week.

MDPH reported 80 new COVID‐19 cases during the 14‐day period ending Dec. 2, compared to 44 new cases over the two‐week period ending Nov. 25.

"In light of this significant uptick, I’d like to remind residents to continue to take precautions to protect themselves and others from COVID‐19," Mayo said.

Public health protocols to help prevent the spread of COVID‐19 include wearing face coverings, practicing social distancing, and washing hands frequently, among other measures.

The current overall vaccination rate for Hingham is 76 percent. Looking at only vaccine‐eligible individuals in Hingham (individuals ages 5 and over), the percentage of fully-vaccinated eligible residents is 80 percent.

About 54 percent of Hingham children ages 5‐11 have received one dose of a COVID‐19 vaccine.

The Hingham Health and Fire Departments are working to with the Town of Cohasset to organize a regional vaccine booster clinic on Tuesday, Jan. 4,  at the South Shore Baptist Church in Hingham and will offer Moderna booster shots to residents from Hingham and Cohasset.

"We will publish details about how to register once we have received the vaccine supplies," he said. "We may also potentially hold a mini-clinic for Hingham residents only on Dec. 28 with limited booster shots available."

Other local resources include:

  • A drive‐up vaccine clinic at the Marshfield Fair Grounds on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., offers first and second vaccine doses and booster shots. Johnson & Johnson, Moderna, and Pfizer vaccines are available. Appointments may be made at Marshfield MA | (marshfield-ma.gov) and are also available without an appointment while supplies last. Those without appointments should arrive before 2 p.m

The holiday schedule for the Marshfield clinic will be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday during Christmas week (Dec. 21 to 23) and New Year's week (Dec. 28 to 30) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • CVS and Walgreens locations in Hingham offer vaccinations by appointment only but do not offer COVID‐19 testing. Local Walgreens stores will offer booster shots during the week of Dec. 20. CVS locations offering COVID‐19 testing include the CVS on Commercial Street in Weymouth, the CVS on Rockland Street in Hanover, and the CVS on Main Street in South Weymouth.
