Musician Peter Mulvey in Special Concert at World’s End on Sept. 16

August 31, 2023 By The Trustees

Since 2007, Western Massachusetts troubadour Peter Mulvey has made annual treks across the US and Canada by bicycle. This year, Mulvey is partnering with The Trustees, America’s oldest land conservation nonprofit, and will perform at five of the organization’s reservations, including World’s End in Hingham on Saturday, Sept. 16, at 5 p.m.

“The Trustees has a long, rich history of protecting special places, and engaging new audiences in the outdoors. As an organization, we also are on the front lines combating climate change,” said Michael Busack, Portfolio Director for the Trustees and an organizer for the tour. “Peter’s work to reduce his carbon footprint as a touring musician is commendable and raises awareness of our individual actions and how they impact the environment around us. We’re excited to partner with Peter on his tour and spark new conversations about how we all can make changes in our daily life to benefit the natural world around us.”

Throughout his 30-year career, Mulvey has built a widespread and enthusiastic fanbase thanks to a tireless commitment to writing, recording, and touring. Since he most often performs as a solo artist, conventional touring generally means hours of isolation, driving from one town to the next; without giving much thought to the passing landscape.

About the partnership, Mulvey said, “Perhaps the thing I most love about touring by bicycle is spending so much time outside, in the presence of a living landscape. Finally, these shows with the Trustees are giving me a chance to share that part of bicycle touring with the audience too."

Means of travel is not the only difference between bicycle and conventional touring. The venues for these events are strikingly different from those Mulvey has grown used to. All of these shows will take place outdoors, some around campfires, others while watching the sunset over the Boston skyline. These elements, taken in combination, amount to a one-of-a-kind experience for both artist and audience.

Over the course of his nine-day tour, Mulvey will cover over 200 miles by bicycle. He’ll be joined at various times by friends, many of whom have joined Mulvey on bicycle tours in the past. For more information or tickets to the event, please visit https://thetrustees.org/event/88865/.

Tickets are still available for this special concert at $20 for adult members, $5 for child members, $25 for nonmember adults and $10 for nonmember children.
